Trump dismissed Iran’s suspension of the US-Iran MoU, saying he “couldn’t care less,” as tensions escalate with fresh strikes.

United States President Donald Trump said he “couldn’t care less,” while responding to Iran’s decision to stop adhering to the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The US-Iran MoU was signed last month to halt the war that began on February 28 and formalise a final agreement over the next 60 days.

During an interview with NewsNation, Trump was asked about Iran’s announcement that it would not abide by the MoU, amid escalating strikes. Responding to the question, Trump said, “I couldn’t care less.”

Trump said that Washington’s primary objective was to never allow Iran to have nuclear weapons.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tehran has “suspended” commitments to the Memorandum of Understanding.

“The US has violated and suspended all its commitments within the framework of the Islamabad MOU. We have also suspended our commitments; we are not implementing them, and we are busy defending the country,” he said in a statement carried by the Fars news agency.

The US military launched airstrikes targeting Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard on Sunday, further widening the exchange of fire between them as an interim deal seeking an end to their war has collapsed. The strikes were in retaliation for the killing of American troops in Jordan.

US CENTCOM said that it hit “Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities and missile and drone storage sites.”

It said the attack was designed to degrade Iran’s ability to control the Strait of Hormuz and “swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces.”

Over the last week, the US has targeted bridges, electrical facilities and other targets in Iran, and Tehran has retaliated by hitting power and desalination plants in Kuwait, threatening daily life in that small, oil-rich desert nation. Iran also has stepped up its threats to further expand the strikes, drawing a warning overnight from the United Arab Emirates.
