Concerns as US uses ‘virtually all’ long-range precision missiles 5 months into Iran war
Concerns have spiked after reports revealed that the U.S. Army used “virtually all” of its precision long-range missiles in its five-month war with Iran.
Three people familiar with the data raised concerns about the military’s readiness for future conflicts.
The missiles are the Army’s premier surface-to-surface weapons, known as Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) and Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM).
The sources declined to tell the Times of Israel how much of each munition the U.S. has left.
President Donald Trump launched the Iran war jointly with Israel in February and predicted that the conflict would last only a short amount of time.
But more than five months later, worries have begun to spike regarding the U.S.’s stockpiles of missiles. As the stores deplete, many fear the U.S. could be limited in its ability to deter adversaries like Russia and China.
DON’T MISS…
Another person familiar with the matter said that while Central Command — which oversees U.S. forces in the Middle East — nearly used up its land-based missiles before the war even began, it was able to reload from U.S. military supplies elsewhere in the world.
The White House issued a statement on the matter, quoting Trump. It said the U.S. has “far more munitions than anyone in the world” and “far more than we need.”
“Our defense companies are, at this moment, making more munitions than they have ever made before, in addition to expanding their plants and equipment at record levels,” Trump said.
