‘Completely False,’ IBB Disowns Gold Mining Site Where 37 Persons Died In Nigeria

Former Military President General Ibrahim Babangida has disowned the gold mining site where 37 persons were arrested in Niger State.

Those arrested died in the custody of the Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Their deaths have triggered outrage and unrest leading to the imposition of a curfew in Minna.

Reacting to media reports after the deaths, General Ibrahim Babangida popularly called IBB said claims that the gold mining site belonged to him were “completely false, baseless and defamatory.”

The statement by the IBB Media Office said, “We categorically reject this publication in its entirety. It is an egregious act of blackmail and a severe misrepresentation of facts.”

IBB threatened “that the legal team of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has been fully briefed and is actively monitoring all prints, broadcasts, and digital reportage of this defamatory falsehood.

“Immediate civil and criminal legal remedies will be aggressively pursued against any individual, blog, or mainstream media platform that continues to circulate, amplify, or republish these unverified, malicious, and damaging lies”, the statement said.
