Chelsea's goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez undergoes surgery

Chelsea have confirmed that goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has undergone “successful” surgical procedure on a fractured jaw following a conflict of heads throughout his aspect’s 2-0 win at Everton on Saturday.

Martinez collided with Jarrad Branthwaite because the pair challenged for a cross, and after greater than eight minutes of therapy, the Argentina worldwide was taken off the pitch on a stretcher to a ready ambulance.

The Argentina goalkeeper later posted a photograph of himself in a hospital mattress on Instagram, writing: “Thank you for all the messages, the operation went well.”

He added: “We’ll be back in a few weeks.”

Speaking instantly after the match, Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso mentioned that Martinez had been taken to hospital for “precautionary tests”.

Chelsea mentioned in a press release: “Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has undergone successful surgery on a fractured jaw. Everyone at Chelsea wishes Emi a speedy recovery and will support him throughout.”
