Breaking: Fubara declares support for Tinubu, Wike’s Rainbow Coalition ahead of 2027 elections
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Rainbow Coalition, a political movement led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the declaration on Tuesday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction and equipping of the Riven Medical Facility, a public-private pharmaceutical manufacturing project in Rivers State.
Fubara said the prolonged political crisis that had divided the state’s political landscape was over, urging his supporters to unite behind every candidate presented by the Rainbow Coalition in future elections.
He stated that President Tinubu remained the leader he supports and added that the coalition’s governorship candidate would equally enjoy his backing.
The governor stressed that anyone who believes in his leadership should support all candidates contesting under the Rainbow Coalition, saying he had already made his political decision.
Time for peace has come
Fubara dismissed suggestions that he should delay aligning himself with the coalition, insisting that he had already returned to what he described as his political family.
According to him, the era of political conflict had ended and the focus should now be on reconciliation, peace and development.
He said lasting peace would create a stable environment for governance, economic growth and improved service delivery across Rivers State.
The governor also declared that he would not participate in any activity capable of creating fresh political divisions or destabilising the state.
He maintained that his administration had done what was necessary to resolve the crisis and was now committed to moving Rivers State forward through unity and cooperation.
Fubara therefore appealed to political stakeholders and residents to embrace peace and support efforts aimed at sustaining stability in the state.
Governor reaffirms commitment to pharmaceutical project
Speaking on the Riven Medical Facility, Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the successful completion of the project.
He explained that the state government agreed to support the investment after receiving assurances from the promoters regarding its viability and the proposed delivery timeline.
According to the governor, the first phase of the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility is expected to be completed within the next three months.
He described the investment as a strategic project that would promote industrialisation, strengthen healthcare delivery and increase local production of medical consumables.
Fubara noted that the project would also create employment opportunities, stimulate economic activities and position Rivers State as a major pharmaceutical manufacturing hub in Nigeria.
He added that the facility would attract both local and international patronage while encouraging the establishment of complementary industries around the project.
State government assures investors of support
The governor pledged the full support of the Rivers State Government to the investors handling the pharmaceutical project and urged members of the host community to cooperate with the company.
He said maintaining a peaceful environment around the project would encourage more investments and accelerate industrial development in the state.
Fubara also disclosed that the state government is currently involved in litigation with several companies over contractual claims exceeding ₦200 billion.
According to him, his administration is determined to avoid unnecessary contractual disputes capable of discouraging investors from doing business in Rivers State.
Expressing optimism about the project’s progress, the governor said the first phase of the pharmaceutical facility should be ready for commissioning within the next three months, adding that the investment would make a significant contribution to the state’s long-term economic development.
