A JAS commander, three fighters and a woman have surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army’s 21 Special Armoured Brigade operating under Operation HADIN KAI and Operation DESERT SANITY V in Borno State.

The surrender followed an intense clash between rival JAS and ISWAP elements, coupled with sustained intelligence-driven operations by troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade.

According to a military Special Situation Report obtained by Zagazola Makama, the five individuals surrendered at about 11:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026 in the Kumburi general area of Bama Local Government Area.

The JAS commander was identified as Ishiaku Agah, while the three fighters were identified as Sulieman Yaga, Iburija Chari and Ba’ana Modu. A woman, Falmata Modu, also surrendered with the group.

The individuals were said to have come from the Bula Daloye general area before surrendering to troops.

Troops recovered 358 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the surrendering group.

The surrendered individuals and recovered items have been taken into military custody for further action, while troops continue to monitor the area for additional fighters willing to surrender.

The development comes amid intensified military operations and growing internal clashes between JAS and ISWAP factions in the North-East, which have continued to weaken terrorist networks and put pressure on their fighters and support structures.

The military said the general security situation across the theatre remained calm but unpredictable, while troops maintained satisfactory morale and fighting efficiency.
