“I find the allegations difficult to believe, given my regard for Anthony Kila and my respect for Premium Times and the people behind it.”

The storm over fake professor allegations rocking Pro-Chancellor Anthony Kila has taken a new twist, as one of his closest associates has publicly challenged him to come clean.

Senator Babafemi Ojudu, journalist, politician and member of the same Yoruba association as Kila, said he is still struggling to compose himself after reading the PREMIUM TIMES investigation.

In a Facebook post that has now gone viral among Nigerian journalists, Ojudu admitted the allegations were difficult to believe given his high regard for Kila.

“I am still trying to compose myself after reading this story yesterday. I find the allegations difficult to believe, given my regard for Anthony Kila and my respect for Premium Times and the people behind it,” Ojudu wrote.

He revealed that he and Kila belonged to the same Yoruba association, where Kila’s contributions were always insightful and his conduct dignified, which made the expose even more shocking.

“Anthony and I have belonged to a Yoruba association, where his contributions at meetings were insightful and his conduct dignified. To read these allegations about him is, to say the least, shocking,” the former Ekiti Senator stated.

But respect, Ojudu said, is not enough. What Kila needs now is not legal threats but verifiable evidence.

“We need a clear, substantive response from him, beyond threats of legal action. If the allegations are untrue, verifiable evidence should provide a compelling rebuttal,” he wrote.

Ojudu then listed what Nigerians want to hear from the man who analysed President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Day speech as a professor on ARISE TV on October 1.

“Anthony, please set out your academic and professional history: where you studied and when; the qualifications you earned; who supervised your master’s dissertation and doctoral thesis; where you taught; and where, when and through what process you became a professor.”

He said mere words would no longer suffice. Kila must bring records, publications, and confirmations from the institutions concerned, including former teachers, classmates, colleagues and students to corroborate his story.

“You are entitled to seek legal redress. But a clear, documented response would go a long way towards answering these allegations and reassuring those of us who hold you in high regard,” Ojudu added.

He ended with a plea that has resonated with many: “Give us the facts and the evidence. Those of us who respect you will then have a firm basis on which to speak in your defence.”

The challenge comes days after PREMIUM TIMES exposed that ECAPS, the UK university where Kila claimed he got his professorial Chair as Jean Monnet Professor of Strategy and Development, does not exist.
