Bandits Abduct Zamfara LG Chairman in Deadly Attack
The Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Hon. Nura Umar Bungudu, has been kidnapped by suspected bandits after a violent raid on his residence.
The assailants stormed Bungudu town late Thursday night, targeting the chairman’s home in the Zango area, less than 20 kilometres from Gusau, the state capital.
Security personnel guarding the residence were overpowered, with two police officers and two vigilantes killed in the assault.
Witnesses said the attackers initially abducted the chairman along with his wife and children. However, security forces pursuing the bandits managed to rescue several of the children, while the chairman remains in captivity.
Residents reported that reinforcement teams arrived only after the attackers had fled. They attributed the rising wave of violence in the area to the bandits’ access to sophisticated weapons and alleged support from informants.
Community members have appealed to government and security agencies to intensify protection measures in Bungudu and other vulnerable parts of Zamfara State to stem recurring attacks.
