Army Arrests Female Gunrunner in Plateau, Rescues Kidnap Victim in Edo

Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a 30-year-old suspected female gunrunner, Halima Ibrahim, during an intelligence-led raid in BassaLocal Government Area of Plateau State.

According to a statement shared on the Army’s official X handle, the operation was carried out by troops of Operation Enduring Peace in collaboration with vigilantes and local hunters, following the abduction of Dr Abraham Owoicho on August 19, 2026.

During the raid on Kisayi and Dogon Daji settlements, Ibrahim was apprehended while attempting to flee with two AK-47 rifle magazines.

A subsequent search of her residence led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a locally fabricated revolver, a military jungle hat, and three mobile phones.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the rifle allegedly belonged to her husband.In a separate operation in Edo State, troops laid an ambush at Powerline Uzairue along the Afawosa–Iyora Road in Etsako West LGA.

The soldiers engaged suspected kidnappers, forcing them to abandon their victim, Mohammed Oboarekpe, 35, who had been abducted from his residence in South Ibie on August 20.

The Army reiterated its commitment to dismantling criminal networks involved in kidnapping and arms trafficking, stressing that intelligence-driven operations will continue in collaboration with security agencies and local stakeholders.

“Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to support ongoing efforts to safeguard communities,” the statement read.
