Amazon’s ‘God of War’ series to recast lead after star’s severe injury
Production on Amazon’s upcoming God of War television series has undergone a major casting change after lead actor Ryan Hurst sustained an injury while filming.
Hurst, who had been cast as Kratos in the live-action adaptation of the popular video game franchise, reportedly tore his bicep during a stunt sequence, an injury that requires surgery and an extended rehabilitation period.
According to reports, the lengthy recovery timeline has prompted Amazon Studios to replace Hurst in the lead role rather than delay production. The decision follows earlier reports that filming had been paused after the injury, with expectations that Hurst might not be able to return to the set until next year.
Production is taking place in Vancouver. The series also stars Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor and Mandy Patinkin as Odin. Amazon Studios has not publicly commented on the recasting or announced who will replace Hurst as Kratos.
