Alleged Defamation: Please release Udoito to bury her father – Ekid begs Gov Eno
President-General of the Ekid People’s Union (EPU), Mkpisong Samuel Udonsak, has again made a passionate appeal to governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State to facilitate the release of Princess God’sOwn Udoito.
Udoito has remained in custody since January 2026 over alleged defamation offences against the governor.
The Appeal Court in Calabar last week upheld the judgement of Uyo High Court denying the defendant, Udoito bail on the grounds of gravity of the offenses, flight risk and risk to public order while mandating for accelerated hearing to hasten the trial.
However, the EPU president urged the governor to temper justice with mercy by facilitating Udoito’s release.
Udonsak noted that Udoito had personally apologized to the governor, describing her continued detention as one that deserves compassionate consideration.
He added that prominent individuals and groups within and outside Ekid had also appealed for her release.
He said, “We renew our call on His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, to let go of the past and facilitate the release of the lady on compassionate grounds, so that she can bury her father and take care of her children.”
