Again, Nigeria Immigration extends UK passport intervention exercise

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its UK passport intervention exercise to October 30, 2026, following continued high turnout and sustained demand from Nigerians seeking passport services.

The latest extension comes weeks after the Service extended the exercise to October 3 following strong demand at its intervention centres in London and Manchester.

In a public announcement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, on September 25, 2026, the NIS said the latest extension was approved because of the high turnout and sustained demand from Nigerians in the United Kingdom.

The extension will run from October 6 to October 30 and is being implemented on the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Intervention centres listed across UK

The NIS urged Nigerian communities across the United Kingdom to take advantage of the additional period to renew their passports and attend the intervention exercise at the designated centres.

The exercise will take place in London, Manchester and Aberdeen, while the venue for the Cardiff centre will be announced in a subsequent public notice.

The designated venues are London: 56–57 Fleet Street, Temple, London EC4Y 1JU; Manchester: Nigerian House, 23 Platt Lane, Manchester M14 5NE; and Aberdeen: Hilton Convention Centre and 13 Smithfield Road, Aberdeen AB24 4NR.

For Cardiff, the NIS said the venue would be announced later.

The Service advised applicants to keep abreast of updates on the Nigeria High Commission’s website and the NIS’s official communication channels, particularly regarding the Cardiff venue.

Applicants required to book appointments

The NIS said intending applicants must book appointments for the intervention exercise and strictly adhere to their scheduled dates and times.

According to the Service, the arrangement is intended to ensure an orderly process, minimise delays and enable officials to attend to applicants efficiently.

Applicants can book appointments through the designated online platform or via the Nigeria High Commission’s website.

The NIS encouraged Nigerians in the UK to take advantage of the extension to renew their passports and make use of the designated intervention centres.

The Service said the extension reflects its commitment to responding to the needs of Nigerians in the diaspora while ensuring an orderly and efficient passport service delivery process.

Contactless system remains operational

Meanwhile, the Contactless Passport Application System remains operational, with eligible applicants encouraged to use the platform to renew their passports without visiting a Nigerian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate.

The NIS said applicants attending the intervention centres are required to present a completed application form, payment slips as proof of payment, an intervention appointment printout, a self-addressed return envelope and, in renewal cases, their current passport.

The Service emphasised that cash payments would not be accepted at the venues.

It urged applicants to cooperate with officials throughout the exercise, reiterating its commitment to efficient, transparent and responsive passport service delivery to Nigerians in the diaspora.
