55-Year-Old Bauchi Community Leader Shot Dead

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Clement Anthony, over the alleged killing of a community leader in Unguwar Ngas, Bauchi metropolis.

Police said the suspect allegedly shot 55-year-old Jacob Bature, the Mai Anguwan Ngas, with a locally made single-barrel gun during an altercation on the evening of July 19.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, said Bature sustained severe gunshot injuries and was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead.

Police operatives later arrested Anthony and recovered the locally made firearm allegedly used in the attack, along with an expended cartridge.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. The suspect will be charged in court after the investigation is concluded.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killing and reiterated the command’s commitment to bringing violent offenders to justice.

He also urged residents to avoid unlawful possession of firearms and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
