32 Killed, 200 Displaced in Nasarawa Farmer-Herder Clashes

At least 32 people have been killed and more than 200 displaced in ongoing clashes between farmers and herders in Udege, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The violence, which began on April 3, 2026, in Odeni Gida Electoral Ward, has spread to several communities including Angwan Mada, Apura Adagba, Udege Kasa, Akyewa, and Angwan Ogiri.

The conflict has left many residents injured or missing, while homes, farmlands, vehicles, motorcycles, food supplies, and economic trees worth millions of naira have been destroyed.

Farming activities have been crippled, forcing residents to abandon their communities and seek refuge in makeshift camps.

Hon. Onarigu Onah Kana, member representing Udege/Loko Constituency, raised the issue during plenary at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, warning that the crisis poses a serious threat to food production and livelihoods.

He cited recent killings, including the murder of a farmer in Akum on June 25 and another in Agam village on July 9, as evidence of escalating insecurity.

Kana urged urgent deployment of security personnel and humanitarian aid from the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

In response, the Assembly passed resolutions calling on Governor Abdullahi Sule to strengthen security operations, involve traditional rulers in reconciliation efforts, and mobilize the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to reinforce peace.

Speaker Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau described the renewed violence as “unfortunate” and emphasized the need for coordinated action to prevent further loss of lives and property.

He directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the Assembly’s resolutions to the governor for immediate implementation, while appealing to residents to remain calm as efforts continue to restore peace.
