2027: Show No Mercy to Opposition Parties – Gov. Nwifuru Orders LG Chairmen
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has issued a stern directive to the newly sworn-in chairmen of the state’s 13 local government areas, urging them to deal “mercilessly” with opposition parties as the 2027 general elections approach.
Speaking at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki during their inauguration, Nwifuru emphasized that the chairmen must deliver on governance, ensure development in their jurisdictions, and strengthen the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor warned that complacency would not be tolerated, stressing that any chairman who fails to meet expectations risks removal.
“Let me sound it this way, and I want to see it on the pages of newspapers tomorrow: deal with opposition parties mercilessly,” he declared.
Nwifuru also noted that his administration would closely monitor their performance, adding that decisive action would be taken against underperforming officials, particularly if he secures a second term.
The governor’s remarks have heightened attention on the political role of local government chairmen in Ebonyi, as the state gears up for the 2027 elections.
