2027 elections: Ganduje brokers peace as 4 APC councilors’ groups merge for Tinubu

In a major political consolidation aimed at strengthening the grassroots structure of the ruling party, four major factions of serving and former councilors under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have agreed to end years of internal rivalries and merge into a single unified platform.

The historic harmonisation followed a protracted reconciliation dialogue hosted at the Abuja residence of the former National Chairman of the APC and former Governor of Kano state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON.

The high stakes meeting, which concluded late in the evening on July 29, 2026, produced a joint resolution signed by key leadership representatives of all constituent groups.

There were four group at logger-head named Progressive Serving Councilors’ Forum of Nigeria, Coalition of Past and Present APC Councilors of Nigeria for Tinubu/Shettima 2027, National Progressive Councilors’ Forum, and National Association of Past and Present Progressive Councilors.

The deal brings an end to fractured operations among grassroots lawmakers across Nigeria.

Under the terms of the resolution, four primary entities officially dissolved their independent operations to form one national body.

All attending group leaders signed a binding pledge to forfeit their factional leadership titles and platforms in deference to the new harmonized structure.

“All groups whose leadership attended the meeting have agreed to relinquish their various leadership interests and platforms in favour of the harmonised single Progressive Forum,” the signed resolution declared.

To manage the newly merged political bloc efficiently, the body established two distinct operational arms: National Progressive Serving Councilors’ Forum (NPSCF), designated as the official national body representing all currently serving APC councilors, and National Progressive Former Councilors’ Forum (NPFCF), operationalised as the sole platform for all past APC councilors across the country.

Dr. Ganduje was formally adopted as the Grand Patron of the combined forum. In addition to acknowledging his role in mediating the crisis, the leadership resolved that any future internal disputes or misunderstandings within the rank and file must be submitted directly to Dr. Ganduje for final, binding resolution.

To ensure balanced geopolitical representation, executive positions across both the serving and former councilors’ wings were distributed according to the Federal Character principle.

A Caretaker Committee was inaugurated to pilot the daily affairs of the group, subject to oversight from a newly constituted Board of Trustees (BOT) and the Grand Patron.

The key officials nominated are as follows; Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT), Hon. Muslihu Yusuf Ali; Director-General, Hon. Barrister Muhammad Abubakar Shehu; National Chairman (NPSCF – Serving Wing), Hon. Jagila Jabila (Borno State), and National Chairman (NPFCF – Former Wing), Hon. Sylvester Ari (Plateau state).

The unified forum emphasized that its primary objective is to build a formidable grassroots network to drive community mobilization ahead of the next general election cycle.

The resolution explicitly reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to mobilize support for the incumbent administration, pledging to “work assiduously for the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 General Elections and beyond.”

To consolidate the merger and align its national delegates, the platform announced plans to hold a national Leadership Summit and Convention in the coming weeks.
